PEORIA, Ill. -- For the next stop on the You Gotta Eat summer tour, Joe Bennett takes us to a hot spot that went cold for little while.

Just under a year ago, Mr. G's in Peoria came back to Main Street under new ownership. The staples are still here with some of the best Chicago dogs and french fries in the area, and they have even expanded their space and their menu.

"They knocked out the ceiling, lifted it up, repainted, got the new, cute, little milk shake and hot dog paintings,” said Mr. G’s Manager Christine Sickinger.

A freshly painted interior adds some charm to Mr. G's, but the real impressive additions are written on the wall: cheeseburgers, milk shakes and a grilled chicken sandwich.

"There's something about hot dogs, I think it reminds people of camping trips, barbecues, grills and people just want to eat it when the weather gets warm,” said Sickinger.

Photographer Larry Foulk ordered his favorite dish, a tenderloin with everything, that's mustard, pickle and onion. The meal comes with a drink and french fries, which Larry says are the best he's had anywhere.

Joe had the Big Baby Bacon Burger: two patties, grilled onions, mustard, ketchup and double the bacon and he gave it the “You Gotta Eat” ultimate nod of approval.

Larry and Joe went back in for milk shakes. Joe recommends the strawberry-banana mix shake, which he says is one of the best shakes he’s ever had.

Their meals with fries and large drinks came to $18.15, plus tip and $5.71 for two shakes.

Mr. G's is located at 601 West Main Street in Peoria. They are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
