PEORIA, Ill. -- Table 19 inside the renovated Pere Marquette pays homage to restaurant Carnegie's inside the original hotel.
Memorable moments happened at table 19 that it became the favorite.
Decades later, the goal is to give everyone that special experience with each bite.
"We want to make good food," said Matthew Ianetta, executive chef. "But we're doing it simply because simple food is some of the hardest food to make."
The pasta is made daily and many products are bought locally.
If you're in a hurry, try the express lunch: soup, salad and a sandwich.
"You can come in get it quickly and get right back to the office and you know you ate well, said customer Patrick Reed.
"It's really fresh and it tastes really good," said customer Mackenzie Camp. "But, it's reasonably priced for the value you're getting."
The actual table 19 was taken.
So Marshanna and Chad made themselves right at home at table 45, which was just as cozy.
To start, they ordered an appetizer, a blue crab on toast, with a light sauce and topped off with arugula.
Then, the two took it up a notch, both ordering beef for the main dish.
Chad ordered the char-crusted New York strip steak. He even ate his vegetables.
After much back and forth, Marshanna decided on the T-19 Apple-wood bacon Angus cheeseburger with sweet potato fries.
It's simple, yet satisfying.
The total came to $36.72 plus tip.
