PEORIA, Ill. -- Hope is the main theme of a conference being held in Peoria this weekend.

The Hope Renewed youth conference kicked off over at the Riverplex Rec Center Friday.

The three-day event serves as an educational forum for kids ages 11 to 18.

The goal, says the organizer, is for kids to gain leadership skills and have some fun in the process.

"The young people get a chance to ask questions about whatever it is they want to talk about. They might want to talk about Officer Duncan about crime or about bullying, or they might want to ask Norris about going to Bradley. We kind of let it be organic," said Conference chairperson Sherry Cannon.

The conference concludes tomorrow with a concert a 5 p.m.
