GLASFORD, Ill. -- Despite the fact that it is illegal, area teens were encouraged to send text messages while driving Wednesday.
State Police and Operation Team Safe Driver made a pit stop at Illini Bluffs High School as part of Safe Driving Week.
Students took turns driving on a video simulator while sending texts to friends.
But for at least one student, it was anything but a game.
"Our school has suffered lots of losses from driving accidents, so I take it very seriously when it comes to driving and texting," said Jordan Lowe, Illini Bluffs High School Junior.
One-third of teen deaths in the U.S. happen because of a car accident.
Students also learned about the dangers of drunk driving, speeding and not wearing a seat belt.
