EUREKA, Ill. -- We sometimes joke about the winter weather being a headache and how we are sick and tired of it. But mental health experts say the winter blues could be a serious issue.
For some, the long winter season could bring Seasonal Effective Disorder, or SAD, that carries symptoms of depression and moodiness.
On Wednesday, the Eureka Public Library hosted a 'winter blues' seminar with Amy Braman, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
Braman said there are some home-based remedies.
"The main treatment is light. Just being able to go out into the sunlight and being able to suck up those sun rays. That's the best cure," said Braman.
Health advocates said, for those not fortunate enough to make a getaway to a warmer climate, a cheery outlook helps.
