Even though experts say the overall economy in the U.S. is not too good... in Peoria businesses are thriving.

Northwoods Mall celebrated the Build-A-Bear Workshop's grand opening this morning in Peoria.

Mall manager Jeff Case says the shopping center welcomes new stores to support the strong local consumer market.

Case says it ensures an all-around shopping experience.

He said, "We like to add new, exciting stores. We like to pick and choose so that we can add to the whole experience for people. It is like when we added the food court because people wanted that."

Local children from the Crittenton Center were the first customers to make their own interactive stuffed animals.

Tomorrow, the first 200 customers can make a free bear to donate to the Crittenton Center.
