With the European Commission giving the all-clear, Caterpillar has just announced its acquisition of MWM Holding GmbH from 3i.

MWM is a leading global supplier of sustainable, natural gas and alternative fuel engines.

Caterpillar Chairman and CEO Doug Oberhelman says he is pleased with the European Commission's decision, as it was the last hurdle to clear before the acquisition.

"The MWM business is a natural complement to our long-standing diesel and gas powered generation business," said Oberhelman.  "[T]he integration of MWM will result in important synergies leveraging the two companies' existing product ranges, advanced engine technology, research and development resources, manufacturing, distribution and customer support capabilities."

The acquisition is valued at $800 million (euro 580 million).

MWM will soon become part of Caterpillar's Electric Power Division, which supplies natural gas and diesel generator sets and integrated power systems involved in the generation, control and supply of energy.
