Caterpillar continues to take strides to boost business in China.
The company announced Wednesday that it has signed an agreement with Xitong Technical Industrial Park Administrative Committee to build a new state-of-the-art proving ground and a large wheel loader manufacturing facility.
Both of these new projects would be erected in China's Tongzhou, Jiangsu Province.
Named the Asia Pacific Proving Ground, the new expansion of the company will provide product development services for Caterpillar machinery produced in China.
The new manufacturing facility will produce a new wheel loader model to meet China's high demand.
"The Asia Pacific Proving Ground will be critical for Caterpillar to develop and validate the right products for growth markets quickly and cost effectively," said Tana Utley, Caterpillar Vice President and Chief Technology Officer with responsibility for the Product Development and Global Technology Division.
Utley adds that the addition of the proving ground will help the growing customer base in China and across Asia.
Caterpillar currently has 16 manufacturing facilities, three research and development centers and three logistics and parts centers in China.
