PEORIA, Ill. -- Caterpillar is gaining the respect of not only customers but the corporate world as well.
According the newly released Barron's annual survey of corporate respect, Big Yellow claimed the number 5 spot, just behind Apple, IBM, McDonald's, and Amazon.com. Caterpillar received a 34 percent "highly respected" rating.
Last year, the heavy equipment manufacturer did not rank in the top 100 at all.
Companies like Google, once at the number 6 spot, fell to 16 and Walmart, formally at 18, dropped to the 51 spot.
