Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman today told Monmouth College students to dream big...and to think about accountablity.
Oberhelman was the Whiteman lecture speaker today.
He told students and faculty that among the things which concern him is a lack of leadership in Government.
He's publicly disagreed with the state of Illinois' increased income taxes and said decades of poor leadership in Springfield had led to the state to cut social services to balance the state budget.
He told those assembled at Monmouth's Dahl Chapel: "Due to neglect over thirty years or more, we're about to hurt the people who need government the most. We're going to take the money left away from them and I don't think that's very fair. but, everybody's back is to the wall now and there's no choice. Lack of leadership in Illinois over the years has put that on us."
Oberhelman said "accountability" was something he stressed to his leadership teams.
They should be. he said, like a small business owner: always ready to answer the phone and try to get a new sale.
