Former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood will be retained by Caterpillar as a consultant on policy matters.

“Ray will assist Caterpillar in developing corporate strategies focused on identifying solutions to specific policy and communications challenges Caterpillar faces in the increasingly complex policy and business environment,” said Caterpillar’s press release. “Caterpillar will also benefit from LaHood’s deep expertise in infrastructure planning and investment and manufacturing in the United States.”

LaHood served as the 16th Department of Transportation Secretary. Prior to that, he was the representative of Illinois’ 18th Congressional District from 1995 to 2009.

The former secretary also does consulting work for lobbying firm DLA Piper, serves as co-chair of Building America’s Future, an infrastructure advocacy group and serves on the board of Proterra, an electric bus company.

LaHood graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Science. He and his wife Kathy have four children and 11 grandchildren.
