PEORIA, Ill. -- Some Caterpillar employees will soon be facing what the company calls a "temporary layoff".
A spokesperson from Caterpillar says those layoffs include a one-week shutdown of the East Peoria factory.
Caterpillar issued the following statement Thursday afternoon:
Caterpillar's East Peoria manufacturing complex, which produces track-type tractors, is examining options to align production with demand. At this time, it is planning a one week temporary layoff later this year, which would impact a large portion of its workforce in East Peoria. Although the company announced record results for the second quarter of 2012, businesses and plants within Caterpillar must take necessary short-term actions such as this to balance production needs with demand.
