PEORIA, Ill -- The 46th District State Senate election has been won by Dave Koehler, after Republican candidate Pat Sullivan withdrew from the race.

Koehler and Sullivan had a live televised debate on October 3 that aired on WEEK TV. Pensions and the 2011 temporary tax increase were the biggest issues debated that night.

Incumbnent Dave Koehler (D) has served the 46th District for the past six years. Dave Koehler moved to Peoria in 1978. In the early 80's he started a 6 year stint on the Peoria County board, followed by 8 years on the Peoria City Council.

In 2002, Koehler helped George Shadid with his election to the state senate and in 2006 when Shadid decided against re-election Koehler ran and was elected to the seat.

Senator Koehler believes his experience and the relationships he has built will continue to bring results in Springfield, bring jobs in Central Illinois, and let him help his constituents in the 46th district.

"When you can help people solve problems, whether it's a business whether it's an individual, that's what you're there for. That's why I choose to be a state senator, I choose to run," he said.
