Bloomington, IL --The Bloomington police department is investigating a Hit & Run accident in the 400 block of South Madison street that happened Sunday evening.

Initially, officers responded to a report of a possible burglary in progress. When they arrived at 407 South Madison, they found 48-year old Mark Olson lying in the middle of the street.

Witnesses tell police that Olson interrupted a theft and attempted to prevent the suspects from leaving the area.

"Being a good samaritan, the guy thought he was going to stop something and a tragedy resulted. Step back, take a moment, you got your cell phones, most of us, be a good witness, get a good description of the vehicle fleeing the scene or of the people or persons in the vehicle. That's probably the best and safest thing to do," said David White with the Bloomington Police Department.

Police say Olson was struck by the suspect's truck as it fled the area. The truck is described only as tan or gold in color.

Olson was transported to Advocate BroMenn where he died early Monday morning. The McLean County coroner says Olson died of multiple head injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information to the incident that happened at 6:43 p.m. to contact them at 828-1111.
