Normal, IL - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, announce that LHP Donald Furrow, RHP Dan Blewett, RHP Brett Lester, and RHP Greg Lane have re-signed with the CornBelters for the 2011 season.

The team also made a trade for Outfielder Tim Rodriguez from the Yuma Scorpions.

Following a six-game road trip to begin their second season, the CornBelters will play their first home game of the 2011 campaign at the Corn Crib on May 27 at 7pm versus the Southern Illinois Miners (CEFCU Opening Night).

Donald Furrow was a free agent who signed mid-season in 2010. He finished 3-3 with two saves, 38 strikeouts during 31.2 innings pitched, and a 2.56 ERA.

“Having a veteran in the bullpen will be a big plus for the Cornbelters this year. He was one of our best pitchers in the second half of the season for us last year,” said pitching coach, Brooks Carey.

While with the CornBelters in 2010, Dan Blewett finished the season with a record of 6-7 and a 3.90 ERA, including one shutout against the Gateway Grizzlies, and 82 strikeouts during 113 innings.

“Dan is a pitcher with a lot of talent and a strong arm. We're expecting a great season and plenty of innings out of him this year with the CornBelters”, said Carey.

Brett Lester was the CornBelters’ first pick of the Frontier League Draft in 2010. He finished with a 7-7 record, 76 strikeouts, and a 4.42 ERA.

Greg Lane was a mid-season trade with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association in 2010. He finished the season with a 0-4 record, one save versus the Lake Erie Crushers, 13 strikeouts, and a 3.99 ERA.

The CornBelters have also picked up outfielder Tim Rodriguez in a three team trade. Rodriguez played with the Victoria Seals and the Yuma Scorpions of the Golden League last season.

He played 80 games between the two teams, finishing with a .349 batting average and 51 RBIs with the Yuma Scorpions.
