One of the nation's most popular cheer and dance competitions made a stop at the Peoria Civic Center on Saturday.

About 1,000 girls from Illinois and Iowa put their best foot forward at JAMFEST. The event showcases dance teams with participants ranging in age from 3 to 23.

This is the 8th year JAMFEST has come to Peoria and organizers say it keeps getting bigger.

"We started about 20 years ago with one competition in Louisville, Kentucky, and we've grown it to over 70 competitions each year," said JAMFEST event planner Josh Keeling. "We're also partners with about 5 or 6 other competition companies and between us all we put on over 170 cheer events each year."

Some of Saturday's winners will get to compete at super-nationals which will be held at Indianapolis in January.
