He sits in a big chair in Washington D.C. He stands in front of the Peoria County Courthouse. And soon, he could also make a stand in Metamora.
The Woodford County Historical Society has more than half the money needed to get a bronze Abraham Lincoln statue at the Metamora Courthouse. President Lincoln practiced law at the state-historic site in the 1850s.
The President of MTCO donated 20-thousand dollars Saturday for the life-sized statue. The group still needs 47-thousand dollars and is offering a smaller-replica of the statue to the first person who donates 5-thousand dollars.
The goal is to get the statue built by the summer of 2009 or what would have been Lincoln's 200th birthday.
