PEORIA, Ill. -- It looks like a proposal to bring video gambling to Peoria's General Wayne A. Downing International airport won't fly.
Operators of the "Hangar Too" restaurant and bar inside the airport approached management about installing video gambling machines inside the eatery.
During an airport authority meeting Wednesday, board members expressed opposition to the proposal. With just one restaurant at the airport, some board members say hungry travelers, not interested in gambling, would not have other options to choose from during long layovers.
"When we started down this path, I didn't know which way the board was gonna go, but I really wanted to get all the facts together so that I could present them to the board so they could make an informed decision, at that point they expressed reluctance," said Airport Director Gene Olson.
Olson says many airports around the country have been approached about establishing video gambling. He says so far none in Illinois have bought into the concept.
