PEORIA, Ill. -- After your Thanksgiving meal, you might consider going for a run to burn off some of the calories.
Some people got ahead of the curve Sunday at the 42nd annual Turkey Trot. It is the oldest race in the Peoria area.
About 200 people from the beginner level to seasoned runners ran the four-mile course at Detweiller park.
Peorian Dan O'Neil says he has been trying to exercise more. He decided to run this race for the first time.
"It's the best way to stay in shape. It's easy. You don't need a lot of money to run, just a good pair of shoes and a nice track and a nice road somewhere," said O'Neil.
All proceeds from the race benefit the Peoria Park District. The top two finishers in each division won a trophy and a certificate for a free turkey.
