2012: Home sales rise in Peoria, Bloomington-Normal

CENTRAL ILLINOIS-- 2012 proved to be a successful year for home sales in Peoria and the Twin Cities and anticipate even more growth for 2013.

According to the Peoria Area Association of Realtors, sales increased almost 17 percent over 2011 figures and median prices increased just a little over 6 percent.

Home sales from 2011 jumped from roughly 4,200 to almost 5,000 in 2012.

The Association's President, John Purple, attributes the numbers to an increase in consumer confidence and new home construction combined with very low interest rates.

"One thing we want buyers to be aware of is that they can't stay low forever, so they need to work with a lender, they need to work with a realtor to get the best possible purchase price," said Purple.

Bloomington-Normal home sales also rose in 2012. In 2011, around 2,000 homes were sold whereas last year, that number jumped to around 2,500 homes.
