Washington High School student critically injured in head on crash

WASHINGTON, Ill. -- A 17-year-old Washington High School student is in critical condition after his car crashed head on into another car on Route 24.

Austin Strong, 17, was the driver of one of the vehicles that collided Route 24 near Dieble Road around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Strong was LifeFlighted to OSF St. Francis Medical Center where he is listed in critical condition.

The driver of the second car, Austin Curley, 23, of Pekin was also injured. He is in fair condition at OSF.

Police are investigating and trying to determine how fast the cars were traveling at the time of the crash.

Route 24 was closed for several hours while police investigated.
