Online voter registration begins today

PEORIA, Ill. -- Starting today, Illinois residents can now register to vote online.

The process is now faster and paperless.

To register -- visitors will need a valid Illinois drivers license or id card.

The last four digits of their social security number -- along with a current address.

The city says that registering online takes around five minutes to complete.

"Our hope is that with online voting, it takes away the data entry process so you're less likely to have those data entry errors," says Elizabeth Gannon.

The city hopes to save money using this alternative as well.

Arizona reported they lowered the cost from 83 cents per registration to just three cents per registration.
