Peoria's Firefly Energy Corporation has been awarded a two–million dollar Department of Defense grant.
The money would be used for further development of its high–tech batteries for military use.
The money is in addition to seven million dollars awarded to the company last year.
The company expects to begin volume production of its "Oasis" deep–cycle battery early next year.
In August, the company broke ground on a 40-thousand square foot world headquarters.
