PEORIA, Ill. -- Local pro-life activists came together Sunday night, as part of a national campaign to end abortion.

Area supporters of "40 Days for Life" gathered at Peoria's St. Vincent's School Sunday night for prayer, music, and testimonials.

The event was originally scheduled to be held outside the Women's Care Center on University, but was moved due to bad weather.

Organizers say for five years, the campaign has brought community members together across the U.S., including here in central Illinois.

They add, locally, the movement has seen a recent boost in participation.

Members from 30 area churches have taken part in the campaign.

"This is an outreach to the people that come to that abortion facility, to the people that are just in the city." said Director Karen Guth. "We're a witness that as Christians that we believe something wrong is happening in that building."

The "40 Days For Life" has campaigns is in 316 cities worldwide.
