It is a sad day at WEEK TV. The wife of our colleague Tom McIntyre died Wednesday morning.

Mary Mathews passed away at Methodist Medical Center after a long illness. She was 73 years old.

Mary had a short career on WEEK. In the early 70's she hosted the show "Ultimate People". Mary worked at PCCEO and ERS as a counselor. She also volunteered her services at Women's Strength. Mary was also very active in the Moss Bradley Association, often bringing the neighborhoods concerns before city council.

Mary and Tom married in April 1979.

If you saw Tom outside the newsroom, there was a very good chance you saw Mary by his side. And that was the case if it was the St. Jude Telethon, or maybe some poker run on their bikes. In fact, there was a very good chance you saw them on the bikes.

Mary was in every way imaginable Tom's soul mate. They have three sons and four grandchildren.

We will always remember her as a fiercely independent woman, who did not find it incompatible to be there for her husband in more ways than we'll ever know.

Our hearts are with Tom, and their family.
