A semi–tractor trailer crash on Interstate–74 between Brimfield and Knoxville.
According to police, the driver of the truck was going westbound when he crossed the grassy median and hit the bridge guardrail at mile maker 62 in the eastbound land.
This is near the rest area close to Knoxville.
Police say the cab of the truck rode the guardrail while the trailer part fell into the Spoon River below.
Witnesses say the cab part of the truck exploded and another truck driver pulled the driver of the truck out of the firey cab.
Police say the driver is Paul Anthony McCollar of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was transported to OSF St. Mary's Medical Center and is in stable condition.
Williamsfield Fire Department is on the scene, along with Illinois State Police.
Traffic is backed up in both directions of I–74 and is being routed on to Route–150.
Illinois Department of Transportation says the east bound part of the road at mile marker 62 will remain closed until the bridge can be inspected.
