A house surrounded by water

GREEN VALLEY, Ill -- The warm temperatures and rain are also wrecking havoc on area homeowners.

Karen Britz said she's living a nightmare.

"We've never flooded like this, ever," said Britz.

She said her family first noticed the rising waters Thursday night.

"My son went out there and he goes, 'mom you need to come here and you need to stay calm' and it was just sickening. I mean we were surrounded by water," said Britz.

Her entire property in rural Green Valley is covered in water. The water is seeping into the garage and into her basement.

She thinks the melting snow in the field behind her house is all rushing toward the road, but the ditch is full of frozen water and it has no where.

Britz has sump pump back-up insurance, but that's not the problem. She has no idea the damage this mess will leave behind, but she knows insurance won't help. What's getting her through now is family support.

"My son and my daughter and I were awake, we probably got 2 hours sleep, each of us. We laughed about all the stuff we were losing to try to get through it. We were making jokes. And today the reality probably really sank in, but we're saying 'hey we're together and that's what counts," said Britz.
