PEORIA, Ill -- AFSCME union members with the city of Peoria ratified a 2-year contract extension by an overwhelming majority Wednesday.

AFSCME Local 3464 represents 128 city staffers from 911 dispatchers and clerical workers to city engineers.

Union representative Tim Lavelle said the first year employees will get a 1.5 percent raise, followed by a 2 percent raise the next year.

He said there were no givebacks on the union side, just clarification on several items.

"I think it was important in order to just do the two year extension so that we didn't have to open up the entire contract. It preserved all the good things in the contract and all we dealt with was wages," said Lavelle.

The matter will now go to the Peoria City Council Tuesday for final approval.
