GRIDLEY, Ill. -- One person is dead and two are injured after two vehicles crashed Saturday afternoon.
Shortly before 2 p.m. Illinois State Police and Gridley EMS found three victims near 1800 East on Route 24 in Gridley.
Information at this point indicates a westbound truck crossed the center line, striking an eastbound SUV. The SUV travelers were riding with a brown mix dog named Twix.
The male driver of the SUV has been identified asJohn Bruner, 72, of South Carolina. He had no obvious signs of life and was later pronounced deceased after 3 p.m. on Saturday by the McLean County Coroner's Office.
The driver of a westbound pick-up truck had to be life-flighted to Peoria. The female passenger in the SUV was sent to Advocate BroMenn in Normal. Their conditions are unknown.
Bruner and his fiancé were traveling from Iowa to Indiana when the crash occurred.
Preliminary autopsy results show Brauner died from multiple blunt force injuries, specifically chest and abdominal trauma. His seatbelt was fastened at the time of the crash.
The dog was missing after the crash, but thanks to the public's help was found and will be reunited with his owner.
