Shoppers were encouraged to bring clothing items to donate to Goodwill.

In exchange for each item donated, shoppers received a coupon good for 25 percent off Bergner's merchandise such as jewelry, fragrances and apparel.

The coupons can be used during the Bergner's sale that runs December 6 through 11.

"When the items go to our stores and get purchased all of that money raised will go toward making sure all programming is free," said Amanda Douglass of Goodwill of Central Illinois. "We have a homeless veterans' programs and a veterans' program, we have youth mentoring, we have free computer classes and also free forklift classes for the community."

The 25 percent off coupons are also available at any Goodwill store or donation center and at any Bergner's location.
