PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. -- With Veteran's Day right around the corner, service members were shown appreciation at an annual breakfast.
It was the third year for the Veteran's Appreciation Breakfast, which is hosted by State Representative, Jehan Gordon-Booth.
Dozens of veterans and their family members gathered at the VFW Hall in Peoria Heights to enjoy a free pancake breakfast, which was served by several community volunteers.
"It is nice to remember it because a lot of guys were overseas, and they never got any recognition," said Air Force veteran, Robert Westlake.
"It's the least that we can do for those who signed up or were drafted to the military," said Gordon-Booth. "For people who fought valiantly and so strongly for the rights and privileges that we enjoy today, we just wanted to give back to them."
Service members in attendance served in various wars such at World War II and Vietnam.
Some were as old as 94-years old.
