Bloomington can cut sick leave buyback for future firefighter

BLOOMINGTON, IL. -- Bloomington City Manager says a arbitrator's decision Monday will save the city hundreds of thousands of dollars when firefighters retire after twenty years.

At issue was a unused-sick-leave buy-back provision in the firefighters' union contract.

The arbitrator said Bloomington's decision to cut the buy-back amount by half was reasonable, given the city's $37million pension obligation shortfall.
