The five lakes at Lakeland park are stocked with blue gill, bass, walleye and now Asian Carp can be added to the list.

"I got a call a little after six this morning after the park opened up, some fisherman had already reported seeing some flying fish, I headed out there pretty quickly and noticed that somehow we have ended up with the Asian Carp here in our lakes at Lakeland," said Dir. Canton Park District, Jon Johnson.

That was not the news Johnson or the park district wanted to here on the park's opening day. Johnson spoke with DNR officials who said the best way to get rid of the carp is to drain the lakes.

DNR officials and Johnson say that they have already started to empty out the lakes today and that it will take some time before fishing levels will return back to normal.

"After we get the lakes drained, unfortunately its going to take at least four to six weeks to get the water level back up to an adequate fishing level," Johnson said.

The Canton Park District was not sure how the carp got into the lake except that maybe they have been placed in the lake as a prank or maybe the story is to good to be true.

"It is a HOAX," said WBYS-WCDD RADIO General Manager, BJ Stone.

A hoax that was put on by WBYS RADIO and the Canton Park District.

"It is an annual event here at WBYS were we come up with a fairly significant hoax and see if we can have some fun with the people," Stone said.

Both Stone and the Canton Park District hoped the April fool's joke would attract individuals to the park and believe it was a success from dozens of phone calls and park attendees.

Stone says the station will continue to do pranks and is already working on next year.
