NORMAL, Ill -- Normal Police are investigating an attempted armed robbery that sent one man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

The suspect attempted to rob a Kroger grocery store, located at 1550 East College Avenue in Normal, shortly after midnight Sunday morning.

Police say when the suspect, a white male, tried to enter the store, he was confronted by an armed store security officer.

Authorities say the suspect presented a weapon, later determined to be an air pistol, and pointed it directly at the security officer, who then fired his own weapon several times at the suspect. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police say his injury is not considered life-threatening at this time.
Authorities say the same Kroger has been robbed before, but aren't sure if the incidents are connected.

No names are being released, and the investigation continues.
