WASHBURN, Ill. – Two Peoria men are behind bars after allegedly trying to lure a child into a stolen vehicle on Friday.

Tyler Merriman, 18, and Jonathan Nunnally, 20, are each charged with attempted child abduction and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The two men allegedly tried to lure a 9-year-old boy into their vehicle in Washburn on Friday.

The boy reported the incident to a Washburn Police officer who was fueling up nearby.

Both men were arrested and remain in the Woodford County Jail on $75,000 bond.

Meanwhile, the Marshall County Sheriff is investigating whether Merriman and Nunnally are connected to an attempted child abduction in Toluca.

A 10-year-old girl told school officials that two men attempted to lure her into their vehicle as she rode her bike to school last Wednesday.

The girl refused and the men allegedly followed her to school where she alerted the principal who called police.

Marshall County Sheriff Rob Russell said the vehicle and suspects are similar to those described by the young girl.

An investigation is ongoing. Merriman and Nunnally are scheduled to appear in Woodford County court on October 8.
