WASHINGTON, Ill. -- A local auto group is working to promote physical fitness in the workplace and community.

Uftring Auto Group in Washington hosted its inaugural 'Get in Gear' race and tailgate on Sunday.

More than 400 runners and walkers participated in a 1 mile, 5K or 10K race.

The race is part of Uftring Auto's workplace wellness initiative.

"This is part of their attempt to get their employees and their family members much more physically active and the concept of promoting physical activity as part of a health lifestyle," Race Consultant Philip Lockwood said. "They're in the business of getting people moving normally in automobiles but now they are also in the business of encouraging people to get moving on their own two feet."

Proceeds from the event benefit the Peoria Area Blind People's Center.
