CHICAGO, IL. -- According to the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity 3 out of 10 Illinois Businesses are owned by women, generating a total of $53.4 billion in sales annually.
"There are so many inspiring stories of women, often times without credit in the normal sense. That is using personal credit cards, family loans, and other sources of income to get their businesses started. But once that gets started, we want to make sure it continues and grows," Gov. Pat Quinn.
Friday, hundreds of women gathered in Chicago for Illinois' first Women Business Owner Symposium.
The event, which coincides with Women's History Month, is designed to encourage entrepreneurship, and educate women business owners about the resources provided through the state.
