MAPLETON, Ill -- Peoria County Sheriff's deputies and the county coroner confirm the death a 20-year-old Bartonville man who was in an accident early this morning.
According to authorities, Phillip "PJ" Alvey was killed in a single-vehicle crash while driving in Mapleton.
First responders were called to the intersection of Mapleton Road and Monks Lane just before 3 a.m.
Theresa Benedict lives on the property where Alvey's truck landed.
Benedict says an accident like this occurs along that strip of Mapleton Road at least once a year.
"It curves a little bit, and it's all gravel in there so when you turn over to the side street, it's all gravel," Benedict explains. "If you're not going like you're supposed to be going, you're a little fast, they'll hit that gravel every time and then lose control."
Alvey was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Peoria County Coroner Johnna Ingersoll says Alvey was ejected from his vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
