MCLEAN COUNTY, Ill. -- McLean County officials want to bring more big businesses to the area.
The Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council is preparing an incentive proposal for medium to large-sized businesses.
The plan includes limited-term property tax breaks, high-wage job grants, and screening programs for mass-hiring events.
The EDC Director of Research says the plan is just one component in building an economic development toolbox.
"We've certainly been blessed in the Twin Cities with development in the past,” says Ken Springer with the EDC. “The idea behind creating these incentive programs is to keep that momentum going forward. We've been very fortunate in the Twin Cities. We've got some large employers that have grown exponentially over the last few decades."
The EDC is meeting with city and town leaders throughout the week.
The plan will be detailed to the public at the Bloomington Administration and Finance Committee meeting on July 1.
