Bloomington man arrested on sexual assault charges

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- A Bloomington man was arrested Friday on sexual assault charges in Springfield.

Johnnie L. Bankston, 30, was arrested by members of the U.S. Marshal Task Force and the Bloomington Police Department on a McLean County warrant for Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and Criminal Sexual Assault.

Bankston was taken to the Sangamon County Jail and is awaiting extradition. He is being held on $1,000,000 bond.

Authorities say that the charges are of a sensitive nature and that they will be releasing no other information at this time.

Bankston has been charged with other felonies in the past. He was charged with manufacture and delivery of cocaine in January 2002 and January 2005. He was also charged with armed robbery in October of 2006.
