ROME, IL. -- From 8 teams to more than 150... The 9th annual Saint Jude - Brad Wallin Memorial Baseball tournament is underway.

The annual event raises money for the Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Brad Wallin was a patient there during his battle against Bone cancer. He passed away in 2004.

This year's memorial tournament includes 317 games to be played in 5 days.

While a massive undertaking, the Wallin family says the event is organized with the Saint Jude motto in mind.

Coordinator Jeff Wallin said, "They step up when a child's diagnosed, they don't, and we kind of have the same motto as St. Jude, we've, we've taken their motto, no child gets turned away. That's why we have 161 teams. We don't know when to say no and we don't turn any teams away if we can avoid it."

The Wallin family hopes to meet or exceed last year's fundraising total of more than 40-thousand dollars.
