PEORIA, Ill. -- Marketing experts will tell you, it is not easy to predict where the next big idea will come from.
The latest idea for promoting Bradley University and the surrounding community came from a young man, who was not familiar with the River City and was not a marketing major.
A young man sits outside a Peoria business. He ponders his next move. Night moves in and around some city landmarks and what he decides to do will bring him to the attention of Peoria city officials.
Josiah Williams' music video "One More Night in Peoria" has not only turned heads on the local music scene, it has also earned him accolades at City Hall.
"Of course I'm thankful that the city of Peoria has acknowledged it," said Williams. "I worked pretty hard on the lyrics, and the school seems to like the video."
"'One More Night In Peoria', what we did was, we wrote the song for students who are coming to Bradley and don't know exactly what to experience, or in the area of Peoria in general," Williams said.
A Senior theater major at Bradley University, Williams admits he knew little about the city before working on the project, but said he did not mind going outside his comfort zone.
"I think being around people who have cars actually helps, being able to get off just being around campus, exploring the city, seeing what the Peoria city has to offer," Williams said. "It's a great area with a lot of hidden treasures, and I think it's a wonderful place."
Williams is in a wonderful place in his budding career. To compliment his academic success, he has performed at hip hop concerts, produced his own CD's and sees his theater training as preparation for a bigger mission.
"I want to continue growing as an artist, but at the same time I want to help people through church and through ministry," Williams said.
No surprise that the advice he has for his generation is 'stay positive.'
"It never hurts to work hard. Simply put. Being whether it's in middle school, high school, you take those opportunities to learn, and you grow with it," Williams said. When you come from a rough background you have to take things in your own light and you have to be prepared to take these challenges and work through them, so, you have to keep a good mind and a clear heart and be ready to work."
