TREMONT Ill -- A local school district is taking matters into their own hands to raise the funds they need this school year.
At a fundraiser Saturday Tremont School District 702 surpassed their goal for the day.
The Bridge the Gap Fundraiser at Tremont High School is helping to make up for a reduction in state funding.
The state currently owes the school district $200,000 in general aid.
The event, Saturday, included comedic performances, hundreds of raffle prizes, and various entertainment.
Officials said they exceeded the day's goal of $50,000.
"A one day event or even a fundraising doesn't necessarily solve our problem, but at the same time we are trying to be as proactive as we can," said District 702 Superintendent, Jeff Hinman. "There are some things that we have wanted to get done in our building and programs we want to support, but our budget hasn't allowed us to do it.
30% of the money raised will go to different clubs and athletic teams in the district.
The other 70% will go towards infrastructure improvement at Tremont Grade School.
