Bright Side: 8th grader goes above and beyond for service project

MORTON, Ill. --- Morton 8th grader Brian Himmel deserves some recognition.

Brian, a student at Bethel Lutheran School, raised $8,500 for the organization "Autism Speaks in Illinois".

He presented a check to the organization at an assembly on Friday.

It was part of Brian's Making a Difference Project, a graduation requirement at his school that focuses on fundraising and community service.

Brian went above and beyond and hosted a benefit and concert for the organization. Nearly 200 people attended.

Brian said he chose organization for his cousin who has autism.
