PEORIA, Ill. -- The entire Peoria County is celebrating Elmwood athletics.

The Elmwood Junior High boys basketball team and cross country team, along with the Elmwood High School boys cross country team, were all honored at Thursday night's Peoria County Board meeting.

All three teams won a state title this year!

For the high school team it was truly an underdog victory.

"I think it's the first time it's ever been done in the history of high school cross country in the state of Illinois to finish fourth in the sectional and come back and win the state championship," said Elmwood High School Cross Country Coach Gregg Meyers. "So it just goes to show the character of the team."

It was an especially successful season for some of the junior high athletes who took home trophies in both sports.
