EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The snow isn't all bad. Lots of families took advantage of the day off and hit the sledding hills.

Parents and kids raced down the hill on Springfield Road in East Peoria enjoying the fresh powder.

For a lot of these families it was the first time sledding this season because it has just been too cold.

"My grandpa used to take my dad sledding on this hill on a car hood and when I was a kid my dad took me here, so it's only right that I take my kids here and see if they can break a leg," said East Peoria Resident J.D. Lee.

And although a little snow in the face can give you a chill on the way down, the kids agree the thrill of the ride is worth it.
