MORTON, Ill. – More than $1,500 was donated to the Wounded Warrior Project on Wednesday thanks to the 7th and 8th grade basketball teams at Morton Junior High.

During the teams’ home games this season, spectators could pay $1 to take a shot from the half-court line. If they made the shot, they got a free pizza.

The event all started with the 7th grade basketball coach.

“The commercial always got to me and I thought instead of watching the commercial, why don't you do something about it. I thought it would be nice to do something for men who really need help and assistance,” said Coach Matt Yarcho.

Thanks to Papa Murphy's donating the pizzas, all of the money raised goes directly to the Wounded Warrior Project.

The organization helps veterans and current service members injured during their service.
