PEORIA, Ill -- The next phase of construction is underway at the Main and University intersection.

Starting Monday, crews shut down the intersection to all traffic to allow ground thawing and water main installation.

Traffic has been re-directed in the area for the last couple weeks as crews did work ahead of the shutdown.

Area business aren't sure how this will effect them yet, but they are preparing for the worst while hoping for the best.

"We are a little nervous that people might not be remembering us or people might avoid the area so they won't stop in for lunch or dinner," said One World Cafe HR manager Amy Sickinger. "The only thing that we can do is remind everyone and encourage, we definitely want people to keep coming and supporting this area and ultimately when this is all finished it's going to be beautiful and it's going to make for a much better main street."

Detours are posted in the area. This closure should last about a week.
