EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- East Peoria Police and Firefighters are investigating a car crashing into a house on Springfield Road Friday morning.
Firefighters arrived on the scene after 10:30 a.m. to find the driver had already been removed from the car by neighbors.
The driver was described as a man in his mid-20s. He was transported to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.
Authorities say the car hit a gas line but bystanders on the scene were able to shut it off.
"The bystanders did a head up thing by getting the gas meter shut off," said East Peoria Assistant Fire Chief Randy Hurd. "It could have been a lot worse if that would have found an ignition source. Everybody did their job and luckily nobody was seriously hurt."
No one was home at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation.
