PEKIN, Ill. -- One person is injured after reportedly driving through a Pekin business Monday morning.

According to Pekin police, a car left the road and swerved into Pekin Bass Bow, 1304 Derby St., around 9 a.m.

Authorities say 51-year-old Kevin Swoik drove completely through the building.  They say he was transported to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center, where he is listed in fair condition.

Police say there was significant damage to the business and a nearby stop sign, but no one else was injured.

"Just looking at the damage to the building, it's very significant," said Detective Don Jolly, of the Pekin Police Department. "You have city inspectors out here. You have the fire department looking at the structure. Yeah, it's very surprising there's not more injuries than what there is."

It is unknown whether Swoik was wearing a seat-belt.

Cause of the accident remains under investigation.

In the meantime, Pekin Bass and Bow owner Merle Kefer says he hopes the store will reopen in a couple of days, after the structure is secured.
